Does iOS 7.1 upgrade result in shorter battery life?

On an iPhone forum I visit occasionally, there was a recommendation not to upgrade to iOS 7.1 because it would cause shorter battery life. Is there any truth to this, or is it just another internet rumor?

I have an iPhone 5, and I have not had any problems with battery life in iOS 7.1. Then again, I didn't have much of a problem with iOS 7.04 either. Maybe it's because the iPhone 5 has a 32-bit processor? I really don't know, but it seems like some of the other problems hit the 64-bit devices harder than the 32-bit ones.

There have been complaints about it. Ars Technica did a comparison on battery life with iOS 7 vs. iOS 7.1. The results were mixed - some devices showed slightly better battery life, some showed slightly worse. The differences were relatively minor either way for the most part, although the iPad mini showed nearly an hour loss of WiFi browsing time with 7.1. On the other hand, the iPhone 5 showed a 16 minute improvement.
