How long is the PC lifecycle at your company?

What length of PC lifecycle have you found works best? I’m at a smaller business, so expense is always a concern, but I don’t want to be penny wise and pound foolish by extending the service life so long that upgrades and repairs make any savings an illusion.

I'd hazard a guess that a lot of companies average 3-5 years, depending on their individual situation. It's hard to generalize though as the hardware usage could be very different for each company.

Good topic, and a harder question than ever to answer because of the emerging alternatives to traditional desktops such as tablets, Chromebooks and Android-powered PCs.

I know Intel isn't exactly a small business, but the chipmaker published a white paper explaining it benefited from PC lifecycle management best practices. That paper could contain an answer to your question.
