I don’t believe that Apple has issued any official statement about the end of ipad 2 production, but it has been speculated to be in the cards since 2012. I doubt that anyone but the most rabid Apple fan would agree that the ipad 2 with its non-Retina display and A5 CPU has grown rather long in the tooth over the years - 3 years is a long time for a tablet to be in production essentially unchanged in todays market. Nevertheless, it has continued to sell well for all this time, so perhaps Apple is crazy like a fox when it come to the iPad 2.
According to the good people over at Apple Insider, the run may be nearing its end, though. They are reporting that Apple will “ramp down iPad 2 production” this year. It’s been a good run, but every race has to end eventually.
