What should the minimum hardware requirements be for employee laptops?

Our company is growing by leaps and bounds, and some of the sales force have offered to use their own laptops from home rather than using ones that our company would provide. What should the minimum standards be? I would assume that any laptop made within the last 3 years should run Microsoft Office, email, and websurfing as well as anything new. Suggestions?

I think anything released in the last couple of years should be fine for sales people. It's not like they will be running high end games or very computing heavy applications. I suggest a minimum of 4GB of RAM and a 1 terabyte hard disk if possible. Processor speed shouldn't be a problem if they are just going to be running MS Office, web browsing, etc.

Well, any newer computer running  Vista or Windows 7 should work well with 4gb+ of RAM and a 100gb+ hard disk. You'll want to make sure that all computers are running the latest service pack (bug fixes)

As for which CPU to run, that is determined by which applications your employees are using. I prefer Intel but there are many capable AMD processors for the more budget-conscious. I'd avoid Pentiums and Celerons and stick with the i3-i5-i7 series if you can, or Core 2 Duo's if you cannot.
